Service-Learning

What is Service-Learning?

Service-learning is a teaching method that permits students to critically apply course theory and concepts to their community based service-learning experiences. Service-learning encourages critical reflection of academic learning and social responsibility. Through service-learning a reciprocal partnership is developed between students, the community, professors, and the university.

Brief History

Since September 2000 this course has integrated components of service-learning and diversity to enhance student social responsibility of the local Bellingham community. Dr. Perry and her students have been dedicated to the Service-Learning program for over nine years and committed over 11,000 hours to community partners.
